I think we can all agree that most of us were a little disappointed with some of the changes made in iOS 7. For me, I don't consider the current iteration ideal (it has it's equal share of good and bad), and I believe we all have our own opinions of how we can make it better.
So, here is my take:
It's very hard to put into words what bothers me about iOS 7. For me, the first thing that I didn't particularly care for were the icons. They were missing something. That Apple charm. Their soul. It's hard to pinpoint what exactly, but it just didn't feel right, you know?
Flat is fine, but Apple shouldn't be afraid to use a little bit of realism here and there. Simplicity is not measured in how little gradients or drop shadows are used. When done in good taste, skeuomorphism can be both functional and beautiful. I chose 4 icons which I thought could use a little more TLC, and tried to simplify them, while also paying respect to the 'soul' of the original design.
